About the European VTES event of the year!

VTES EC 2013 has ended

This years VtES European Championship in Stockholm, Sweden has ended a couple of hours ago. It was a fun tournament event (although as a competitive player, my results should/could have been better). But in the end, I had a lot of fun, meeting a lot of nice people and having most interesting game. Some of them I had met earlier, while others I had the pleasure to meet for the first time (like Jussi, Ke, and many more …). There were a lot of activity beside the tournaments. The VEKN National Coordinator meeting I attended as spectator, the VTES lectures between round 1 and 2 of the tournaments (they can be seen on YouTube channel of Cause and Effect). In the evenings I played one or two casual VtES games. You could also play some boardgames provided by the organizers like Game of Thrones, Twilight Struggle, etc. I think I played 16 games of VtES in 4 days (and I didn’t manage to get to any finals).

  • Thanks to the organizers. Very smooth organization, almost always on time (which is rare in tournaments this size!), no disruptions and fast judging. I know that it is a tremendous amount to organize this whole event.
  • Congratulations to the tournaments winners of all tournaments (Matti, Benoit, Martin, Marko, Marko and especially Hugh, who finally the EC tournament, after winning 42 other (reported) tournaments. The EC final was one of the tightest matches I have seen, and worthy one indeed.
  • Last but not least, I want to thank all the players which came to the EC. It takes some amount of time and money to come the ECs each year, and for some of you it’s not alway easy to do so due to family, work or monetary issues. Special thanks to the 22+ Italians who were at the EC (along with wifes and girlfriends), and especially Enrico who came the EC despite having a broken arm.

Hope to see you in Mannheim, Germany in 2014, when we will celebrate the 20th Anniversary of VTES.

It was mentioned earlier that the draft was won by another Marko, not Hugh?
